1880's
Swing
Rocker
This is an 1880's antique quarter sawn oak swing rocker.  Our customer who lives at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri brought this in to restore.  It had been in the family and was handed down over the years.  We had already done other pieces for them, so they decided to have this restored also.  It was totally taken apart in all of its joints and reglued.  We restored the finish in an antique light brown oak color and reupholstered the seat in an authentic antique washed chenille pattern fabric from Highland Court Fabrics.  Everything inside the seat is done authentically with red line webbing, burlap and cotton.  It has the antique scroll trim to finish it off.

This chair is one of the fancier swing rockers of the era.  It has all of its original wood parts and no reproduction parts.  It also has the original cast iron swing arms for the rocker base.  We cleaned off the rust and clear coated them for protection.  This chair also has its original cast iron wheel casters which we cleaned and restored.  This is really a nice original family heirloom which has now been restored to period correctness.  It can now be used just like in years past as it is in excellent structural condition.  On antique pieces, we strive for period correct restorations and when done, and they can be used.   You don't need to rope them off for fear something is loose or will fall apart when someone sits in them.

Our next project for this customer is an old doll house that was built when she was a child.  We will be doing a restoration and renovation on it.  Look for pictures of it in the futureThis is an 1880's antique quarter sawn oak swing rocker.
